Floods are fun for some...

Camera Critters
"Floods are fun for some" is this weeks "Camera Critters" post. If you want to participate, click on the image above.

I took this image after the massive floods that we had during Australia's long weekend in June 2007. The lake edge is where I once rode my bike as a youngster. On an ordinary day, the shoreline would usually be approximately 50 feet past the tree line, and where you see the birds playing is where the bike track is.

The mood in the area was sombre and residents were shocked by what they saw. One small thing that broke that mood for me, was watching these birds have the time of their lives!

I took a few photos that afternoon, and this was my pick for "Camera Critters".... the break in the water surface is partly the reason for the selection.

  1. This photo is very beautiful. I find it very moody and peaceful. I realize it's a flood, but I'm just being truthful about the emotions it evokes for me.

  5. To EuroYank... I have removed your comment because it was not relevant to my post.

The email it generated has been passed onto Max.

  7. To all of our loyal readers...

You may see there are a few comments that have been removed today - these all came from EuroYank who ended up having a war of words with Max! Which I think should never have been started on this thread by EuroYank.

I was quite offended by his last comment which included this statement "Also I do not like Australians because your reputation has again proven itself. You use shitty language, and when you don't like the reply you act like little spoiled brats and throw a temper tantrum. So FUCK OFF and eat a kangaroo you SLIMEBALL FUCKER!"

WOW - is that our reputation?
He totally misunderstood Max's comment who was supporting his blog - not the other way around.

Now I'm wondering what our other readers think of Aussies? Is EuroWANK correct?

  8. Manx - his last message which you did not see because I deleted it was. WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU GET IT OFF ... and I do not mind people if they disagree with my post, I will post it, but when it comes to the pics and the graphics that have nothing to do with it and then use vulger language ... that cuts it!
(Very creative the way you worded this. But its your blog)

  10. Now I'm upset!

First my Camera Critters post has been ruined by an exchange that has nothing to do with animals, nor the pleasure of photography!

I'M SO SORRY TO ANY CAMERA CRITTERS PARTICIPANT THAT MAY HAVE SEEN THIS MESS!

And now my sexuality and sanity has been attacked!
I am ALL woman, and if I was schizophrenic - I'm certainly a productive person!

  11. @ Darla - thank you for dropping by and for your comment. I'm loving Camera Critters - it's such a pleasure to share some of my photos and be involved with other bloggers with an interest in photography.

@ Misty - I find it peaceful also. It was probably a combination of the environment/birds, and my love of taking photos that brightened my afternoon that day. I know I've said this before, but I'll say it again - I'm very pleased that I found your blog!

@ Larry - thanks!! No surprise that the ducks make it fun for you :) Your bird images are amazing - anyone reading this should take the time to click through to the blog "The Birder's Report".

By the way - Darla's cc post for this week is also birds! Must be something in the air! ;)

  12. Manz you are also very cute and loveable, and your sense of humor (American English) is quite nice and understandable for a guy from Chicago, and I am not upset at you Max lover. Chicago humor is quite different as are our way of sarcasm and humor!

  13. I only saw one thing of importance here. :-) That is a beautiful photo. I like how you captured the water droplets as the bird took flight. Very nice! Hope to see you next week.

  14. Manz and get rid of Max, he is not good enough for you. He will recite or explain a book of photography before and after the sex! And he will use his explanation of photographs as an excuse for the bad sexual performance he was not able to deliver.

  15. Huh?....

But you're right....Manz IS too good for me, that's why we are not together....never have been, never will....

  17. That's some water level change...I don't recall hearing of the event...hope there were no deaths and not much destruction. Isn't it something how we can look out on something like this and still notice the small things with a smile. Sort of a testament that life will go on I suppose.

Thanks for the link re blogging stat problems. I couldn't find specific post that addressed, but it looks like an informative site in general.

  18. The photography is just beautiful and serene if I had not known It was a flood. Knowing that puts the scene in different a context and just shows images are not always what they seem. The duck is the icing on the cake.

  22. Some late responses from me... I really deserve a kick up the butt!! I was always on Wadrick's case about responding to comments, and now I'm the slacker! Sorry guys!!

    Anyway...

To Tootie - thanks for seeing past the crap that went down on this post. I promise to visit your cc post this week.

To Carolina - cheers! I'm also glad I found your blog and family of furry children.

To June - yes there were a few deaths and LOADS of destruction. What was painful for us, was the sound of trapped animals. There were also a few deaths there.

It's true what you said... "look out on something like this and still notice the small things with a smile." The bird play certainly did that for me.

To Babooshka - precisely why I felt I needed the written part of the post. The setting was "beautiful and serene" and I felt calm watching the ducks. But there is a back story and when known, it makes you think about other issues outside the frame of the photo. Thanks for the comment.

To i beati - thanks for dropping by and having a say.

To Shea - as I read this now, all I can think of is your latest ice storm! I hope things get back to normal soon for you. I also wonder how many incredible images were taken over the last few weeks of the storm!?

To Cashmere - thanks buddy. Can I add another name to my fan club? ;)

To Lapa37 - thanks for your comment. We all need to hang onto the great men that do the most wonderful things for us! I know my guy is irreplacable!

To Dianne - nature certainly is beautiful, both when it's being kind to us and when it's being violent! Storm images are some of my favorites. However, I never want to read about loss due to that storm! Thanks for the comment.

    CHEERS EVERYONE.
See you around the cc network!
    :)
